The warmest November since 1971.

November 2009 will definitely go down in history as a very dry and extremely hot month in the Valencian region and has pulverized all temperature records of the past forty years. In the case of Valencia an absolute record without parallel since in 1869, when systematic measurement of temperatures in the city began.

According to the advance monthly summary of the Valencian weather from the State Agency of Meteorology (AEMET) the month of November has been abnormally dry and also extremely hot. The estimated average amount of rainfall has been only 6 litres per square metre, representing approximately 90% less rainfall than is normal in the month.

In more than half of the Valencia-north coast of Castellón the month has been "extremely dry,". November ended with an anomaly of 2.2 degrees above normal, making it the hottest month of the series analysis (1971-2009). With this record of 13.7 degrees centigrade average, it exceeds 2006, which had until now the maximum value.

Sources of Meteorological Centre highlight the contrast of the current November with 2008, which was the third coldest period, with 9.5 on average, representing 4.2 degrees of difference from the this year.

But the most remarkable climatic anomaly is at the observatory at the University of Valencia, whose series of records began in 1869. November has been, with 17.8 degrees on average, the warmest month in the entire 141 years of history, surpassing the average temperature for November 2006 by 0.5 degrees.
